Obedience Training

Obedience training is an essential part of responsible dog ownership. Wagging School promotes the development of positive communication skills between dog and owner, which aims to provide a strong relationship to be able to form with your dog for life.

Dogs need structure, clear messaging & a routine. (That spare seat at the kitchen table is not for them!) Wagging School Obedience Training utilises simple and respectful techniques to teach your dog the boundaries your family is looking to enforce, so your dog can be a happy member of the family.

We provide a professional dog training service giving both owner and dog essential skills to create a positive, trusting, lifelong relationship. We aim to assist you in developing calm and assertive leadership skills that can be used throughout the wonderful journey of dog ownership. We believe that training your dog should be an enjoyable and educational experience for the whole family.

In lessons, trainers will demonstrate techniques to apply and teach a range of skills for the owners to practice with their dogs at home between sessions. We find that making sure the owners are feeling confident with the exercises during the session with a trainer, means that those exercises can be practiced in the home environment between sessions.

We are confident in the training method that if anyone is unhappy with the results after the first session and do not wish to continue training, we will refund the money.

The training methods we use are based on the Alpha Canine Group Dog Training methodology. This method is a practical, safe approach to dog training based on the β€œLifestyle Canine Communication System”.

The method we teach utilises contrasting vocal tones to create a β€˜language’ between owners and their dog, leading to a strong, long-lasting relationship. These contrasting tones encourage the dog to look to the owners for leadership, with owners being the most valuable reward to the dog, creating a positive, healthy bond. We aim to provide a mutually respected β€˜language’ where the dog wants to learn and gains productive structure and guidance to become a well-behaved member of the family.

Basic obedience training is generally conducted over 4 weeks, with one session per week. We also provide after-hours advice for any questions that come up between sessions.

All dogs learn at varying levels, but we have found with owner compliance and consistency with at-home training, that a large majority of dogs will have mastered basic commands by the end of the fourth session.
