Here are some of the most common questions pet owners ask when working with Wagging School Dog Training on the Northern Beaches and North Shore.
Frequently Asked Question
About Our Services
-
At Wagging School, our training is communication-based, reward-driven, and balanced. We use reward marker training to make learning crystal clear for dogs. For example:
“Yes!” – exciting: your dog comes to you for their reward.
“Good” – calm: your dog stays in place to receive their reward.
This system helps shape everything from recall to stay, while building confidence and trust. We use food, toys, play, and praise as rewards, along with clear boundaries and structure so dogs feel safe and secure.

I hold a Bachelor of Equine Science from Charles Sturt University, where I built a strong foundation in animal behaviour and science-based training. During this time, I fostered and rehabilitated rescue dogs, which not only deepened my skills but also sparked my lifelong passion for helping dogs and their families.
I’ve been working hands-on with dogs for well over a decade — fostering, volunteering, and training long before officially starting my career. In 2017, I founded Wagging School, and since then I’ve been training professionally, working with everything from wiggly puppies to complex behavioural cases involving reactivity, aggression, and anxiety.
To stay sharp and relevant, I regularly attend seminars and workshops with internationally recognised trainers, including Michael Ellis, Tom Davis, and Forrest Micke. These experiences continually shape my approach and keep me evolving with the best modern methods.
Rescue and re-homed dogs hold a special place in my heart, but I love working with dogs of all breeds, all ages, and all personalities — each one bringing their own lessons and joys.
-
I work with dogs of all ages, breeds, and personalities — from bouncy puppies just learning the ropes to older dogs needing a refresher, and even rescues with a difficult past. Every dog has their own quirks, challenges, and strengths, and my goal is to bring out the best in each one. Whether it’s teaching foundations, fine-tuning manners, or working through complex behavioural issues, I tailor training to suit both the dog and the family.
🐾 Puppy Training – building strong foundations from the start, including toilet training, manners, socialisation, and confidence.
🎓 Obedience Training – clear communication and structure for skills like recall, lead manners, and everyday reliability, helping dogs make good choices at home and out in the world.
❤️ Rehabilitation – tailored programs for rescue and re-homed dogs, or dogs struggling with anxiety, reactivity, or aggression. Using a balance of reward marker training and accountability, I guide dogs toward calmer, more confident behaviour and stronger bonds with their families.
-
Yes, I offer both.
✨ Private sessions are the most popular option because they’re fully tailored to you and your dog. They’re especially helpful for dogs with reactivity, anxiety, strong personalities, or families who want focused support in their own home environment.
🐾 Group classes are fantastic for socialisation and building obedience around distractions. These aren’t on the schedule all the time, but if you have a group of friends or neighbours interested, I’m happy to arrange a class once we have enough pups to join in.
Both options focus on clear communication, reward marker training, and helping dogs learn to make good choices in real-world situations.
-
Absolutely. Every dog and owner team is unique. Whether it’s an early start for a new puppy, a flexible plan for a busy household, or a behaviour program for a reactive dog, I’ll design a program to fit your lifestyle.
-
Yes. If you’re not happy after the first obedience session, I’ll work with you to make it right — or provide a refund. I’m committed to delivering real, positive change.
-
Definitely. Rescue and re-homed dogs hold a special place in my heart, and I have extensive experience working with reactivity, fear, anxiety, and aggression. Every program is tailored to your dog’s unique history and needs.
As part of my commitment to giving rescues a second chance, I offer a 15% discount on training for all adopted or re-homed dogs.
-
Yes — food is one of the most powerful and natural rewards we can use. But it’s not the only one. I also use toys, play, and praise, depending on what motivates each dog.
A big part of my method is reward marker training. For example:
“Yes!” – exciting: your dog comes to you for their reward.
“Good” – calm: your dog stays in place while you deliver the reward.
This makes communication clear, fast, and fun — and sets the stage for skills like recall, stay, and calm focus.
-
Absolutely. Training works best when the whole household is consistent, so I encourage families to be part of the process. Children are welcome to join in, provided they’re supervised and ready to learn alongside their dog.
I’ll guide you on how each family member can safely and effectively help with training, so your dog gets the same clear message from everyone.
Policies & Fees
-
Fees vary depending on the type and length of training (puppy, obedience, rehabilitation). Payment can be made by bank transfer or credit card. Instalment plans are available for multi-session packages.
-
Life happens, but because my time is reserved just for you, I do have a cancellation policy:
48 hours’ notice – no fee.
24 hours’ notice – 50% of the session fee.
Same day cancellations / no-shows – full session fee.
This ensures I can continue to provide dedicated service to all my clients.
-
It’s simple — just get in touch via text, call, or email. I’ll give you a quick call (the easiest way!) to chat about your dog, your goals, and to book your first session.
-
Usually, yes. A brief initial phone call helps me understand your dog’s behaviour and your expectations. From there, we’ll plan the best way forward together.
-
Most first sessions are held in your home, so having the following handy is helpful:
Small, soft training treats.
Your dog’s usual flat collar or harness and leash.
A favourite toy or chew.
If we’re working outdoors, I’ll let you know what else to bring.
-
Don’t worry—just let me know as soon as possible. If you cancel within 48 hours, we'll aim to reschedule without penalty. If your dog is unwell, I’m happy to adjust the session or find a better time for everyone.
-
I offer flexible options:
In-home training – where your dog learns best.
Local parks – for obedience, recall, and socialisation practice.
Group classes – may be offered at community venues in the future.
-
Yes! While most of my clients are based on the Northern Beaches, I also travel across Sydney and the Central Coaston request. If you’re outside these areas, just get in touch — we can often arrange a solution.
